Sheffield & Railton
Towns of murals and topiaries
At the foothills of Mount Roland lies Sheffield, a quaint and delightful town. With its history as a dairy farming town, Sheffield is celebrated by visitors for being the ‘town of murals’, where art merges with the infrastructure of the town, creating vibrant and intriguing touch points for visitors to make their way through the streets.
From Sheffield, you can access the Wild Mersey Mountain Bike Trail, which offers 15 kilometres of trails through the countryside and wilderness. Sheffield is home to five easy-grade trails, five moderate-grade trails and four extreme trails, interconnecting with the other two main locations of Railton and Latrobe.
Just like Sheffield, nearby Railton has its own mascot of sorts: the town is populated by topiary, hedges that are artistically trimmed to reveal over 100 imaginative characters throughout the entire village. Beyond the topiaries, Seven Sheds Brewery is the perfect spot for a post-bike-ride beer – you can tour the hop farm here, or taste through the range of mead wines offered by the brewery.
